Must be different 3 year cycles for different trees. There are bunya nuts available every year here in North Queensland, perhaps not from the same trees maybe?
A few times I’ve opened nuts that hadn’t fully matured. Very disappointing to collect a wheel barrow full and end up with nothing☹️ I have however grown a small tree from seed. I started with more but the rats got them. One tree won’t do me much good though 😀
I posted about these recently. We get them every year, but some years are better than others. Or maybe we just have so many that one will bear one year and the other another year. I’ve only been living on our property for three bunya harvests and so I haven’t tracked whether it’s different trees but maybe it is.

Fascinating! So these take the three full years to develop from the time of pollination and all of the trees are in sync?
Awesome article! Will definitely try some bunya. Super informative and well-written. Kudos!
